These are Test Environments that are made available to validate the success of any proposed service or service change, prior to release into the production environment. They are not to be used for IS development work. Those utilising these Integration Environments are assumed to have achieved an appropriate level of quality prior to entering Integration. All users must respect others sharing the environment. Non-Production Environments are copies of production. They are not exact copies as compromises have had to be made both in terms of size and cost. Elements within the Test Environments can be ahead of Production release levels due to the nature of testing required. Non-Production Environment does not include Staging. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[Why are Environments Shared? There are a limited amount of Integration Environments. There are more projects than there are Environments. It makes good financial practice to optimise the use of the asset. The Integration Testing (IT1-IT7) Environments are all different . Only one of the Integration Testing Environments for example has an XT component. NPE will allocate you appropriate Environments access relative to your project requirements. Importantly though, it is a conscious decision to require projects working on common platforms or applications to work together, to ensure true integration prior to release on the Production Network. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[How can I use an Environment? Early Engagement is key: As soon as you recognise the need to use a Test Environment it is strongly recommended that as a Telecom Project Manager and/or Test Manager - (1) You contact Telecom Connect via the Connect Front Door – the gateway of the Connect Operating Model which provides a single point of entry into Connect. An online form is available on Connect Front Door intranet site. (2) You make contact with the NPE at npe@telecom.co.nz . When it comes time to formalise your booking, for the use of an Environment you will be required to complete a NPE Engagement Request Form which will detail what you plan to use, and what you plan to do. This form is downloadable from the NPE website. Your request will be assessed at the daily NPE Logistic meeting where it will be reviewed, any shortfalls identified, and, if approved, Environment/s allocated based on your proposed release cycle and the services you will be using. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[Why is project documentation important? As part of your Engagement Request you will be asked to provide a copy of your approved Test Plan, approved Solution Design a logical Visio Diagram of your proposed Test Environment and, where appropriate, any Release Notes and Test Summary Report from the previous phase (e.g. Development unit test). Test Plans indicate to us the type and level of testing you are proposing to undertake and the implications this may have on other users. NPE reviews the documents to determine if there are any further requirements such as links, routers, release updates, etc. Release Notes and Test Summary Reports are provided to other users of the Environment to ensure that they are aware of the change being proposed in order that they can determine the level of risk posed to their delivery or if regression testing is necessary. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[Security and Virus Protection The open nature of the Non-Production Environments means there is an increased risk from viruses and security intrusion:- Security is the responsibility of each user. You must ensure anything you attach to the Environment is virus free. Your laptop or desktop must have anti-virus software and up to date definitions. USB drives are a particular risk and should be scanned on the standalone machine provided at each physical Environment before use. Ask NPE staff onsite for guidance. For duration of the projects, Project/Test Manager’s role includes: Liaison with NPE on the design and build of the environment to ensure security is maintained Work with NPE to proactively scan your build to determine its level of vulnerability. ]]></SlideText>

All users bringing equipment into the Non-Production Environments are expected to have installed and activated an appropriate level of virus protection. This includes, but is not limited to, any laptop and flash drive. NPE reserves the right to audit any machine brought into the Test Environments, both physically and remotely. If a virus or intrusion is discovered, no action is to be taken by the user but rather it is to be immediately reported to NPE to allow proper action and forensics to be undertaken. Noise Hazard in some areas – these are sign posted and ear plugs provided. Hazard of the Day registers are maintained at both WIC and NTL sites. Operational Risks Although every effort is made to ensure the operational availability of a Test Environment, a key role of a test environment is their failure when incorrect code or faulty equipment is introduced. Shared environments mean that others may be at fault, however, NPE counts it a success when a potential Severity 1 is identified prior to release into production and we make no apologies for this. The risk you introduce into a test environment can not only affect your project but also those of all the other users of the environment. ]]></SlideText>

What to do when something does not work as expected: First check some basics- 1. Is this part of a planned outage? 2. Is the equipment or application being operated correctly? 3. Has the test environment been correctly setup (i.e. was this ever going to work)? 4. Are others experiencing the same problem? Collect information- 5. Note the time of discovery. 6. Establish when it was last known to be working. What has changed since then? 7. Perform initial root-cause analysis to help narrow the probable cause. Report the fault- 8. Contact NPE@telecom.co.nz or report the fault to your assigned NPE Environment Lead. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[NPE ISO Accreditation The NPE currently holds ISO 9001:2008 Certification until 13 July 2016. The NPE’s ISO documentation can be found on the NPE website. The documentation represents the make up of the NPE’s Quality System. What is ISO? The ISO 9001:2008 standard provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing processes so that they consistently turn out product that satisfies customers expectations. Because “International Organisation for Standardisation” would have different acronyms in different languages (“IOS” in English, “OIN” in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), its founders decided to give it also a short, all-purpose name. They chose “ISO”, derived from the Greek isos, meaning “equal”. Whatever the country, whatever the language, the short form of the organisation’s name is always ISO. ISO 9001:2008 is implemented by over a million organisations in 176 countries. ]]></SlideText>

<SlideText><![CDATA[What does ISO 9001:2008 Certification mean? It acknowledges compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. The standard represents an international consensus on good quality management practises. It consists of standards and guidelines relating to quality management systems and related supporting standards. The standard provides a set of standardised requirements for a quality management system. It is the only standard in the ISO family against which organisations can be certified – although certification is not a compulsory requirement of the standard.
